How long have you been paddling?

I have been paddling 22 years at the end of this year. Just about all of it has been surf ski. I have raced an OC1 and an OC6 on occasion and raced a Kirton Inuk sea kayak in Scotland a few times.

Favorite Surfski Race, Why?

The BlackBurn Challenge is my favorite race as it represents a premier marathon experience.  Plus,  I have managed to make it around 17 times
Main Training Partner if any:

Mike Tracey for about 6 years...mid '90's to early 2000's
Racing Accomplishments -BlackBurn Challenge 1992-Present...1st Place SS Doubles 1997. 2nd Place SS 1992-1995. 4th Place SS 1998 and 1999.
-Essex River Race...14 times...1st Place 1992, 93, 94, and 98. 2nd Place 1995, 97 and 99. All SS.
-NY Adirondack Classic....1st Place K2 Mixed Division 1997(on a SS Double). 2nd Place K2 Mens Division 2000(on a SS Racing Double with Mike T as my partner.).
-Texas Water Safari 1997. 2nd Place Aluminum Canoe Division. 18th place overall out of 93 boats. It was nonstop with the exception of two hours of sleep. 270 miles in 54 hours. Without question, the hardest boat race I have ever done.
- World Sea Kayaking Championships "LeGrande Traverse" in 2000. 36 mile crossing of the St. Lawrence River, Canada. 5th Place Racing Doubles. Mike T was my partner.
Other Significant Athletic Accomplishments: -Crossed the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick to Nova Scotia 1993. First ever to cross in a day. On a single surf ski. 58 miles of open water.
-Solo from PTown to Boston 1994. Solo and unassisted for 32 miles across Cape Cod Bay.
-Discovery Eco-Challenge Utah. 1995..."Team Farmdog"
-Discovery Eco-Challenege British Columbia 1996..."Team Fossil Watches".
- Sea to the Summit Triathlon New Hampshire, USA 1996. A 12 mile paddle, 90 mile bike and 8.8 mile mountain run from Portsmouth, NH to the summit of Mt. Washington. You have 12 hours to do it.
-Western Isles Challenge Outer Hebrides, Scotland 1998..."Team Aire Taiwan". a four person, 250 mile paddle, mountain run and mountain bike relay, held over three days. Paddled 60 plus miles and placed 5th as team paddler. A very mentally and physically challenging race as the water over there is rough and cold.
-Sea to the Summit Triathlon 1999.
-Discovery Eco-Challenge Borneo 2000..."Team Right Angle Turn"
-Western Isles Challenge Outer Hebrides, Scotland 2000..."Team Northern Runner", a bunch of Englishmen from London. 6th team paddler and 8th Team overall.
What you like about surfskis, surfski racing, paddling: Why do I like ski? Wesley, it is the only thing I really know how to do as it has provided me with a living based off my experiences and I have managed to get pretty good at it along the way
